Save and share all your Office documents on Google Doc with DocVerse

Docverse allows you to save and share your Microsoft Office (Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word) documents painlessly, real time and allows simultaneous group editing on Google Docs.

Introduction to Google Docs

DocVerse provides users with 1 GB of storage space where, with a help of a plug-in you can save Microsoft Office documentations to Google Docs.  Once the documents are uploaded to Google Docs you can share them.

There are a few features which I really like about Docverse

  • It allows you to view the edit trail if multiple people are working on you documents which is neat. The DocVerse software then uses a confliction resolution system to deal with any potential conflicts between the updates.
At any given point of time all older versions of the documents are available in case you want to revert.
  • It integrates seamlessly into Microsoft Office

DocVerse acquired by Google

Google has acquired DocVerse recently. Therefore new signups are not being entertained and the signup page reads

DocVerse, now part of Google, Inc., is working hard to bring the DocVerse product together with the Google Apps family, so new product downloads and registrations with DocVerse are temporarily suspended. Watch this space for updates.

My fear is the same as what happened to Grandcentral and Jaiku. Grandcentral is now available at http://google.com/voice but it is in beta and it is hard to get invites. In the case of Jaiku, as soon as Google acquired Jaiku it stopped accepting new members even though the application was gaining popularity and people were excited about Jaiku. New memberships remained suspended for a couple of years and the user interest waned. Now Jaiku accepts new members but I can bet that the number if users signing up is very low.

My fear is that the same might happen to DocVerse which would be bad. If such a situation occurs Google will replace Microsoft as the most hated company.

The silver lining is that DocVerse is a competitor of Microsoft's Live Workspace therefore I hope Google would not be keen on shutting it down. What are your thoughts?
